The Sagebrush Top by the Friday Pattern Company

The Sagebrush Top by Friday Pattern Company is a versatile, loose but flattering top with an optional ruffle and generous puff sleeves. It can be worn tucked in or out, and is extremely comfortable to wear. It also has a broad sizing option on it. (XS to 7X). It’s a favourite pattern of Annette’s and you have probably seen her wearing it in the shop… here she shares her thoughts and her latest make in one of our new cotton fabrics, Carpet of Blooms.

Suitable for all sewing abilities, including beginners, the construction is simple with clear instructions. Designed for woven fabrics, The Sagebrush Top looks great in cotton, again making it a great beginners make. The cut also means that cotton lawn, voile and linen are also great options. It can be a statement in colour, texture or print, and once you’ve made one, you will almost certainly make a few more.

The pattern provides the foundation for numerous creative design changes. Annette has lengthened the sleeve on one, and added a small ruffle sleeve on another. The bodice frill could be replaced with piping, lace or a contrasting frill. The tie back fastening could be a button and rouleau loop, the sleeve finished with frill by moving the elastic higher. It could even be lengthened to become a dress.

Shown here are two Sagebrush Tops made by Annette. The first in cotton from the Harlow Collection with the lengthened sleeve (below, worn by Annette), the second is true to the pattern in Carpet of Blooms (remaining images). If you want a great, well constructed pattern for a Spring or Summer Top, The Sagebrush is worth considering. You can browse it here. Don’t forget that if you would like help or advice, then you are very welcome to speak with Annette who can share her first hand experience.
