THE ‘QUIET STRENGTH’ QUILT:
Our latest community quilting project is to create a beautiful, quilted wall hanging which will be permanently on display in St Barnabas’ Wellbeing Centre on Hawthorn Road, Lincoln. It is hoped that many visitors will be able to enjoy seeing it for many years to come.
It’s called Quiet Strength, with the message that many people can do things individually which, when joined with the work of others, becomes more than the sum of its parts. The Quiet Strength Quilt illustrates that if we all work towards a common aim, we can achieve so much more. Likewise, the staff, volunteers and supporters at St Barnabas work individually and together to provide a service our city relies on.
When the Fabric Quarter was damaged by water in early 2025, the stress and upset was made so much more bearable by the support our community gave us. We realised how many people loved the shop and what it meant to them, and the strength given to us by many individuals made a huge difference. So ‘quiet strength’ is about not just people working together but also about when, in times of difficulty, those around you quietly offer their support to give you the strength you need. This feeling is also possibly recognised by those digging deep to overcome life’s challenges. This project uses fabric damaged by water and ‘written off’.
We will let you know when it is ready and we will share some photos as well!
If you are taking part:
Using ONLY the Liberty fabrics provided, and at least one piece of all five designs, please hand or machine stitch an 11” x 11” piece of patchwork which will present as 10” x 10” when half inch seam allowance is used.
Please remove any paper templates but you can leave any basting stitches on if you need to.
The design is completely your own choice but please NO personalisation, applique, embroidery etc. We’re asking for just patchwork, without batting, using EPP, FPP or other techniques. We’re keen to see what 36 stitchers create with the same fabrics!
There is more fabric than you need in this pack - you are welcome to keep what you don’t use if you want to. The fabrics provided were ‘lost’ to our water damage and were saved for this project.
PLEASE RETURN TO SHOP BY END OF JULY 2026. Please attach your name on a small piece of paper.
